Hello Everyone,
I wanted to take a minute to email you all about the play, officially introduce myself, and catch everyone up to speed.
I am Kelly Lorenz and I know many of you already, but if I don't, please stop in and introduce yourself. I am thoroughly enjoying working with the kids at rehearsals. It has been a while since I have had a chance to work in the theater and it feels very nice to be "home." I do have a BFA in theatre with an emphasis in acting and directing, but with four young children and a part time job, I rarely get to perform anymore.
Up until this point we have been working from a predetermined schedule and I have been trying very hard to keep all of the kids busy during rehearsals, but sometimes they do need to sit quietly and wait. I am hoping that this new schedule keeps everyone busy during rehearsals. There may be times when they are not used during a rehearsal and on those days they do not need to attend if they don't want to. They are always welcome to be there.
I would like to ask that you remind your children again that if they are not working with myself, Mrs. Meyers, Mr. Lorenz, they really do need to be quiet. They can either work on homework, or can watch the process going on around them. Lisa Myers is working on music. We feel that the kids are working hard when they are on stage, but often times when they are waiting to come on stage, or when they are not involved in the scene we are working on, they end up talking and it becomes distracting to those who are trying to work.
If you are at rehearsals to chaperon, THANK YOU VERY MUCH!!!! While you are there, if you could help keep the kids quiet while they are not on stage, I would greatly appreciate it! I am aware that they are going to want to talk with their friends, but it becomes a great distraction to those on stage, not to mention they are missing cues and entrances because they are not paying attention.
Finally, please ask your children to ALWAYS bring their script and a pencil to each and every rehearsal. It is extremely important that they get the information into the script the 1st time that we do it so we don't have to repeat it the next time we run it. Also, they need to be working VERY hard to memorize their lines, music, dance and blocking. We are heading into the holiday season and we will be missing some rehearsal time in the next few months. The faster they are off book, the better the show will be!
Please feel free to email or call me with any questions or concerns. As I said before I am truly enjoying my time with your children.
Thanks,
Kelly Lorenz
